Sigma Mu Mu Chapter Hosts Inspiring 2026 Talent Hunt Competition

On 21 February 2026, Sigma Mu Mu Chapter, Third District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., proudly hosted its 2026 Talent Hunt Competition at John Champe High School in Aldie, VA. The event celebrated the exceptional artistic gifts of local high school students. The annual program, a cornerstone initiative of the Fraternity, showcased remarkable performances in vocal music, instrumental music, and dramatic interpretation.

The evening began with a warm welcome and prayer, followed by a reflection on the rich history of Omega’s Talent Hunt, a program founded in 1946 to provide a platform for talented youth who may otherwise lack access to artistic opportunities. Since becoming an internationally mandated program of the Fraternity, the Talent Hunt has helped launch and nurture generations of young performers.

This year’s competition featured an impressive lineup of student artists:

  • Ariel Infante – Vocal Solo, “Maybe This Time”
  • Chela Hess – Dramatic Interpretation, “The Weight of A Braid”
  • Myles Wigfall – Instrumental (Classical), “Study No. 21 in A Major”
  • Suhana Salman – Vocal Solo, “Popular”
  • Taleah Welsh – Dramatic Interpretation, “Real Jamaican Pickney”
  • Xavier Graham – Instrumental (Jazz), “Smooth Operator”

Following a competitive and inspiring showcase, the distinguished panel of judges carefully deliberated before announcing the winners.

1st Place: Xavier Graham – Instrumental (Jazz Saxophone)
2nd Place: Myles Wigfall – Instrumental (Classical Saxophone)
3rd Place: Taleah Welsh – Dramatic Interpretation

Xavier Graham’s captivating jazz performance earned him top honors, impressing judges and audience members alike with his artistry and stage presence. Myles Wigfall demonstrated extraordinary technical precision in his classical instrumental performance, securing second place. Taleah Welsh’s powerful dramatic interpretation commanded attention and earned her a well-deserved third-place finish.

The esteemed panel of judges included accomplished musician and educator Lyric Douglas; Master Systems Engineer and veteran gospel musician Terry L. Downing; and Victor Lopez, founder and executive director of Lopez Studios, Inc. Performing Arts School. Their collective expertise ensured a thoughtful and professional adjudication process.

The program was made possible through the leadership of Sigma Mu Mu Chapter Basileus Bro. Paul Forbes and the dedicated Talent Hunt Committee, along with the support of Principal Melissa Sargeant and staff of John Champe High School, Operation Uplift Foundation, Inc., and numerous volunteers.  In closing remarks, chapter leaders reaffirmed their commitment to empowering youth through scholarship, mentorship, and the arts. The 2026 Talent Hunt Competition once again demonstrated the transformative power of performance and the enduring legacy of Omega Psi Phi’s investment in young talent.
