On February 1, 2026, the men of Sigma Mu Mu Chapter, Third District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., attended the National Freedom Day Bell Ringing at The Sterling United Methodist Church in Sterling, Va.  More than 45 others attended the event which began with the ringing of the church bell 13 times on the 13th hour of the day to honor the U.S. Constitution’s 13th Amendment. The event also marked the 50^th anniversary of the establishment of Black History Month.  After the bell ringing, Sigma Mu Mu’s own Brother John Jones welcomed Loudoun County Supervisors Ms. Juli E. Briskman (Algonkian District), Ms. Sylvia P. Glass (Broad Run District), Ms. Kelly Burke (Leesburg, VA mayor), and other guests before introducing the keynote speaker, Dr. E. Faye Williams, Esq. of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.  Dr. Williams delivered an impactful speech on the current mean- spirited climate of America, and reminded attendees that their ancestors survived worse conditions and never forgot where they came.  She encouraged everyone to remain diligent in preserving history and protecting freedoms as well as rights. Dr. Williams closed her speech with the phrase " Wake Up and Stay Woke", the name of her program on radio station WPGC. The program concluded with conversation and light refreshments.

Sigma Mu Mu was proud to support the National Freedom Day Bell Ringing program.  The chapter’s attendance and participation demonstrated its commitment to social action in Loudoun County and willingness to show up and support worthy causes.  Sigma Mu Mu’s efforts continue to uplift the community and reflect Omega in a positive light.
