In celebration of Black History Month, Sigma Mu Mu Chapter, Third District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, participated in two separate Loudoun County Parks and Recreation-sponsored Black History events.  The first event was a celebration held on 21 February 2026 by The Douglass Community Center in Leesburg, VA.  It featured live performances, community vendors and local Black-owned businesses, children’s activities and crafts, and food trucks.  The second event was the Black History & Culture Festival 2026 held on 28 February 2026 at the Sterling Community Center in Sterling, VA.  Each event attracted more than 100 guests and was supported by more than 20 vendors.  At both events, men of Sigma Mu Mu shared information about Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. history, the Fraternity’s history makers, and the chapter’s Talent Hunt Program, scholarship opportunities, future events, and community service activities in Loudoun County, VA.  To attract patrons to its information table, Sigma Mu Mu brothers offered prizes and giveaways to visitors who participated in various interactive, black history-related word search and trivia games which made for fun and festive interactions.

Sigma Mu Mu was recognized by organizers from Loudoun County Parks and Recreation, the Douglass Community Center, and the Sterling Community Center, all of which expressed a desire to work with Sigma Mu Mu on future events.  The chapter looks forward to the future engagements, including the Douglass Legacy Day in October 2026 that commemorates Douglass High School’s place in history as the first high school for African American students in Loudoun County, and the only one for Loudoun’s black students until the end of segregation in the county in 1968.
