Sigma Mu Mu Chapter Conducts Successful Dr. Charles R. Drew Blood Drive

On Saturday, November 8, 2025, Sigma Mu Mu Chapter, Third District of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., partnered with Inova Blood Donor Services to host its annual Dr. Charles R. Drew Blood Drive in Sterling, Virginia. The drive honored the pioneering legacy of Dr. Drew by mobilizing donors across Loudoun County to bolster the region’s critical blood and platelet supply.  Eleven donors registered and successfully donated, including Sigma Mu Mu’s own Brother Joe Smith who sacrificed 90 minutes of his day to donate whole blood, plasma, and platelets.  Several other prospective donors supported the drive but did not qualify as donors.

Throughout the afternoon, Brothers staffed the check-in area, welcomed donors, and worked alongside Inova technicians to ensure a smooth, safe experience. The Chapter’s banner and “Give Blood Today” signage marked the outdoor staging area, while inside, donors completed screenings and comfortably donated whole blood, plasma and/or platelets. The event emphasized the “why” behind Dr. Drew’s legacy: a dependable blood supply saves lives, accident victims, and surgical patients while those fighting cancer also rely on community donations every day. In keeping with Omega’s mandate for health initiatives and uplift, Sigma Mu Mu used the drive to educate donors about eligibility, hydration, and post-donation recovery.  Brothers also encouraged first-time donors to make giving a habit.

By day’s end, participants left with refreshments, smiles, and appointment reminders for future visits; the Chapter left with renewed resolve to support Inova’s lifesaving mission through recurring drives and year-round donor recruitment.  The drive served as a visible reminder of the Fraternity’s commitment to measured, hands-on service. Brothers led by example, rolling up sleeves to donate, guiding traffic in the parking lot, and greeting walk-ins from the surrounding shopping district.

Sigma Mu Mu extends appreciation to Inova Blood Donor Services for professional on-site support and to community members who honored Dr. Drew’s legacy by giving the gift of life. For future drives and volunteer opportunities, the Chapter invites residents to join the Brothers in uplifting Loudoun County through health initiatives and service.
