Sigma Mu Mu Chapter Supports Sugarland Elementary School Career Day
On April 25, 2025, brothers of Sigma Mu Mu Chapter, Third District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., supported the annual Sugarland Elementary School Career Day in Sterling, VA by serving as STEM career representatives. The Career Day was conceived by Sugarland administrators to expose the students in grades 3 - 5 to career options. Career stations were available for the 350 participating students to visit and learn about careers in public service (Fire Fighter and Police Officer) as well as technical fields such as network engineering, software engineering, satellite communications, data analytics, semiconductor engineering, and the medical field. Sigma Mu Mu brothers Duane Keye and Lee Johnson spoke specifically about semiconductors and network engineering, respectively.
Many of the students had no to previous exposure to various career paths and were curious about the timeline for becoming an engineer, the day-in-the-life of an engineer, and engineering level of difficulty. The students walked away better informed about career options and eager to learn more thanks to the contributions of Brother Duane Keye and Brother Lee Johnson on behalf of Omega and Sigma Mu Mu Chapter.
